CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY

The Lower Burrell Citizen's Police Academy was founded in March of 1995. Based on the theory that "the more we know about one another, the more we can help one another", this community service program is designed to promote "Partnerships through Education."

The officers of the Lower Burrell Police Department look forward to providing a wide range of information intended to help citizens better understand the goals and objectives, rules and responsibilities, and legal parameters under which this organization functions.

During the Academy's eight weekly sessions, members of the Lower Burrell Police Department will encourage participants to ask questions as they compare actual police work with the scenarios fictionalized by film and television. Guest speakers from various venues provide information, and a mock trial is one of the highlights of the program. Participants will also be provided an opportunity to offer opinions and suggestions regarding these matters.

A willingness to commit time and talents with those who daily place themselves between the citizen and the criminal will go far toward improving the quality of life in our City. TOGETHER our community can become a positive role model for citizen/police teamwork!

ELECTIVES

At the conclusion of the CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY, sessions graduates may elect to continue their law enforcement educational experience by participating in the following activity.
