Leaf and Limb Disposal Area for Lower Burrell Residents

Please be advised the City of Lower Burrell leaf and limb disposal area is now reopened and available to City of Lower Burrell residents only. The disposal area is behind the brown building at City Hall and will be opened the following times: Monday – Thursday 7AM until 2PM, Friday – Sunday, dawn to dusk.

Please be advised the City will randomly spot check PA drivers licenses to verify Lower Burrell residency. Non-residents and landscapers / contractors may be cited. In addition, any person(s) dumping illegal material(s) may be cited.

Any required changes to the current operating hours or leaf and limb policy will be advertised publicly and available via our web site at www.cityoflowerburrell.com  or by calling City Hall at 724-335-9875 ext. 208.

As previously reported, a new company is collecting our recyclable materials. As is typically the case, there were some start up problems, however, they have become more familiar with the collection routes. Some problems still exist with collections and in the event you are not serviced on your scheduled collection day, leave your collection bin out for pickup the next day.

Preparation Steps

Glass Clear, green & brown bottles & jars. Windows & plate glass, light bulbs, crystal, Pyrex and ceramics. Remove caps & place in regular trash. Rinse/wash food & beverage containers.

DO NOT BREAK GLASS

Newspaper Newspapers, comics & glossy advertising inserts – curbside only. Magazines, telephone books & junk mail. Stack/place newspaper in a heavy brown paper bag, or tie with twine. NO LOOSE PAPER PLEASE!
Aluminum Cans Beverage cans. Foil, foil trays, aluminum lawn chairs. Rinse cans. Please Crush if possible. Labels can be left on.
Steel and Bimetal Cans Any food or metal container such as vegetable, fruit, soup or juice. Aerosol, oil cans, paint cans. Rinse cans. Please Crush if possible. Remove lids & place in regular trash.
Plastics Number 1 PETE Soft drink bottles, peanut butter jars, toiletries. Automotive additives & motor oil. Antifreeze containers are not accepted. Remove lids & caps & place in regular trash. Containers should be rinsed & cleaned. Please Crush all plastics, if possible.
Plastics Number 2 HDPE Colored: Laundry and dish detergents, bleaches, fabric softeners.

Clear: Milk, water, juice jugs. The top of the bottle must be narrower than the bottom of the bottle.

  Remove lids & caps & place in regular trash. Containers should be rinsed & cleaned. Please Crush all plastics, if possible.

The City of Lower Burrell in conjunction with PA CleanWays of Westmoreland County and Abitibi Consolidated has commenced a residential paper recycling program.

Materials included in the residential waste paper program are as follows:

               Old Newspapers        Catalogs        Telephone Books 

                 Junk Mail        Magazines        Office Paper

Unacceptable items are as follows:

                                Household Trash        Glass            Styrofoam                   

                                    Wet Waste        Wood            Photographs

                            Plastic Bags                Metal            Any Non-paper Item
